New Zealand Women vs Sri Lanka Women, 1st Match

New Zealand Women vs Sri Lanka Women, 1st Match - Live Cricket Score, Commentary

SLW 188/9 (50 Ovs)
NZW 189/1 (37.4 Ovs)
New Zealand Women won by 9 wkts
ust the start New Zealand wanted. A day to remember for Suzie Bates who is now third in the list of most ODI hundreds in Womens cricket. They will be next playing South Africa on Wednesday at the very same venue. Sri Lanka though will hope for a turn of the tide. They gonna face Australia next, on Thursday. But there's plenty of Womens World Cup action before that. Don't miss out. Hope you're having a great weekend. Until next time, cheers!!
Sri Lankan captain Inoka Ranaweera spoke in Sinhalese. Unfortunately, we couldn't transcribe it. Apologies for the same.
Suzie Bates: Really pleased with the way we finished. Didn't start as well as we would have liked. Maybe a few nerves with the ball, but the way we came back was brilliant. Sri Lanka batted well at the start, and we could have done a lot more things well. We are playing South Africa next and we need to be at our best in that game. I did feel a little bit out of touch before this game, but it's nice to spend some time in the middle and contribute for the team.
Holly Huddleston, player of the Match: It's a dream come true for me. You always want to do well in the first game. I just kept it simple, bowl decent line and length. I got a little bit of movement in the air first up and after that it was a pretty decent batting strip. Satterthwaite and Bates, to bat like that was awesome. My parents coming here to watch the game is pretty special.
16:34 local: Handshakes all around as Suzie Bates beams in delight. New Zealand continue to have the edge over Sri Lanka. After losing 8 wickets for 40-odd runs in the last 15 overs, Sri Lanka had very little chance of making a comeback in this game. That little chance was to pick up early wickets and primarily the wicket of Suzie Bates. They did get the early wicket, that of Rachel Priest, but that remained to be the only joy with the ball for Sri Lanka. Bates and Satterthwaite bullied the bowlers and milked runs with supreme ease. Made a mockery of the target and will be mighty pleased with the net run rate, I'm sure.
